Dr. Fahrettin Haczeyni, Ph.D.

Postdoctoral Associate in Medicine

Fahrettin joined Ersoy Lab in 2020 to focus on developing novel treatment strategies against obesity and related metabolic comorbidities via investigating modulators of cellular lipid metabolism. Fahrettin received his B.Sc. in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Halic University, Istanbul, Turkey. He then completed a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree by completing course work in Istanbul Technical University in Istanbul and lab work in Mannheim/Heidelberg-German Cancer Research Center in Germany. Fahrettin received his Ph.D. at the Australian National University (ANU) in the laboratory of Prof. Geoffrey C. Farrell where he studied persistent adipose inflammation, lipotoxicity, and fatty liver disease. He remained as a postdoctoral associate at ANU before undertaking a JSPS (Gakushin) Postdoctoral Fellowship selected by the Australian Academy of Science in Prof. Toru Miyazaki’s lab at the University of Tokyo, Japan before moving to New York City. Fahrettin is currently involved in multiple projects in Ersoy Lab. Besides research, Fahrettin actively participates in science communication organizations when he is not cooking for his friends or trying to discover the best coffee shop in NYC.
